Perhaps the most wonderful honor we have is creating films to impact culture. One of the most exciting films of my recent career was adjudicated in Film Festivals around the world beginning in June of 2016. Our documentary feature filmmaking expertise is one of the most exciting and challenging areas of filmmaking. Allow me to share how true stories have impacted my life and film career.
Make sure you go on our page OUR FILM HISTORY to learn more about the first award winning documentary produced by our team, BEYOND THE GATES OF SPLENDOR (FOX). This exciting story was a true story of the Waodani Indians in the jungles of Ecuador who killed the missionaries in 1956. These brave men were martyred for their faith and their wives went back to live in the jungle with the very tribe who speared them. END OF THE SPEAR was later the feature film that followed, but it all began with a documentary. THROUGH THE VALLEY was another moving film we made in 2014 about the genocide which took place in Rwanda. Many people of faith died for their beliefs and memorials all over the nation in Africa remind us of the tragedies. However, through tragedy can also come triumph and in this award winning documentary feature film, you will find hope, forgiveness and even reconciliation! Pure Flix is coming out with a new feature film about this movie starring Julia Roberts brother in 2017, so stay tuned for more later. Do you realize how many true stories really do need to be told in film? Isn't it amazing how often our lives are filled with ordinary people, having the opportunity to experience extra-ordinary circumstances. This happens with real people, just like you and me. Maybe you have a family member who served faithfully in a war and you never realized their story should be told? Think about the great feature films which have been made around documentary films? You can see Angelina Jolie's film UNBROKEN and be moved by this powerful true story of real faith. Will Smith's film, THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS was based on a Christian book and a true story of a man who was radically changed by his faith and then began to change his world and the lives of his family who lived on the streets. Right now, our film team is working with Dr. Miller Bargeron who is an author whose dream was to make feature films and he has launched an entertainment company after spending years working for our Federal Government. Jennifer Calvert is an author who is a school counselor who was moved about the real problems with PTSD and teen suicide and is writing a screenplay to make a difference in other people's lives! Stop for just a moment, do you see a trend here? These are people who have a "calling" on their lives and people we have met who are self published authors and wanting to make a difference. Do you realize how important your story is? Many years ago, I was doing the funeral of my Great Aunt. As I stood before our family and friends, I made this statement, "No book will ever be written about our Auntie, no song will ever be penned and no movie ever created, but the legacy she has left in our hearts has made us all closer to God, because of her life". Later, I realized while this was true, I may be wrong. Here is why. What if someone in her side of the family found clippings, began going into research, discovery and found out amazing truths nobody every knew about this great woman? Here I was speaking something that unknowingly, I may have been entirely wrong. What I have come to experience is that all people can have a story and there are many elements in making a story great. What is your story? I don't know where you are in life right now, but I do know this. If you are reading this simple blog, there are no accidents. Maybe you are just surfing the web and taking some personal time to dream. We hope you had fun here. However, if there is something deeper inside your heart and you too have a calling to tell your true story, there are some key rules you might want to remember. Life is not always a story. Documentaries often have missing story elements, so you need to know what to do find them. Multipliers are needed to enhance true stories or they may not be commercial. Character arcs and plot lines are essential to place dimension into every story. Often "based on a true story" is why feature films work so well in the creative process. Hopefully, these tips will help you in considering if your story could be a film. Not every story is a book, a song or a film, but we have strategies we could explore as you dream with us. It's an expensive process, but the rewards in social entrepreneurship, total impact and truth are overwhelmingly powerful. Best of Luck and God Bless Coach KMAC PS Our film team is ready to create documentary stories with you today for legacy purposes and for commercial purposes, so you remember, there are many roads to real impact.
