Filmmaking is a team sport. Just like being on the court of a Division basketball team like the Mercer Bears. There is a head coach, Coach Bob Hoffman drives the team, but there are so many people who are proven veterans which form a championship season.
Sometimes the "David" can actually beat Goliath. Three years ago Mercer played Duke University, which was the number one seed in the first round of the NCAA tournament. It was going to be Duke all over again and millions put their brackets together. However, they forgot one thing, a little team called Mercer. When the gun sounded, the Bears had won and Coach Krzyzewski walked into our locker room and said, "You all deserved to win so congratulations are in order, thanks for playing so hard." In film, you have to understand there are many "giants" out there, but in our site, we are creating doors for opportunity to fly open. There no longer needs to be the myths of Hollywood saying, "There is no way possible you could do this." As a young boy growing up in Oklahoma, I had a dream to make movies, but it was going to be impossible, right? Wrong, for there were doors which opened to this wide eyed Okie that changed my life in every respect. It wasn't because of Disney, or even Nest Entertainment that made the difference. The break of becoming the CEO of Hobby Lobby's film company and helping be a founder in EVERY TRIBE ENTERTAINMENT or the deal at FOX. This did not happen because of knowing film stars, studio heads or any other reason than this. God uses ordinary people to do extra-ordinary things. He was so gracious to open every door and give me the chance to make films and see my dreams come true. I'm so thankful for the years I spent working in a local Baptist church, for my time with ESPN, for walking the sets of SCETV during the FIRING LINE and connecting at the White House during the Reagan years filming interviews. Faith is the key to success and it doesn't take a lot, just a "mustard seed" to begin the journey. I am wanting to encourage you, no matter what your background, no matter what your limitations are, to dream your dream. Yes with every vision, there MUST BE provision so you will need capitalization to make a film and this may come from family and friends, but don't give up. You will have to sacrifice, but for those of us who gave everything, we understand this guiding principle. Coach always says, "Leave it all on the court" and give your best. We must leave our finest legacy not because of desire for fame or even greed, but because our culture needs good stories, we need new heroes and we need to believe again. Our nation is divided, hurting, fighting racism and more, so its time to do something good about our future and we can do this with outstanding stories. Let's consider joining together to make a difference. The film veterans in our FILMMAKERS ROUNDTABLE are top shelf. These guys and gals are among the finest anywhere. You would want to "hang out" with our team because we love each other, are loyal and believe we can make a difference because we are stronger together, than we are apart. Everyone is welcome. If you are broken, we especially want to talk to you because we are very broken people, who realize God is completely in control on so many levels. Yep, we are people of faith and we will be praying for you in this journey. It's an expensive process to walk into the "manufacturing of motion pictures" and it will take a team. You don't have to have all the answers, but you need a few. You don't need all the money, but you need the seed capital to begin the venture. Are you willing to step out in faith? When you work with us, we promise to tell you the truth about your properties. You may not like what we have to say, but we believe you will see and understand the "why". We have now met with hundreds of content creators and authors. After my last film, we had over 114 screenplays submitted to us. Last year, we met with over 118 authors, so this is not our first rodeo but we never know if the next call isn't going to be a life changing call. Thank you first, for considering being in our huddle and team. You will have to work, you will need to sacrifice, believe and want to win, even when the struggles get tough. Position your heart toward the pursuit of excellence and realize this is only the beginning. When you get down, just remember, life is not about succeeding, but learning from our failures, being molded into something more and achieving the impossible. Years ago I was told the reason David had five stones, was because Goliath had four brothers. Wow, let us all work toward being prepared, being honest, integrity based and filled with passion in everything we do. Let's make this season, the best season of our lives and leave it all out on the court, for something much greater, than us. |
